Dear Sarah,
The name is MIMESI MEMORIA METAMORFOSI. It is a work on memory. Everytime we remember something we transform it, we add another layer, we take that existing layer and pour it into liquid, something blurs, something new comes out, what we thought was a letter becomes a shadow, a puddle, a cave. At first I worked on the archetypal memory, processing a canvas with rice paper and different kinds of inks, colours and water. Then, two kinds of digital layers. Fonts and excerpts of written poetries – which have been photographed and digitalised – representing our digital and semi-digital memory. New kinds of memory that we have to deal with since contemporary times encompass virtual reality. What do we remember of merely online experiences? Can we talk about a reality of memory? What do we remember of dreams? How do all these memories blend? There is a lot of memory everywhere. Memory is a tool to imagine past, present, future. Then we could have lived any life. I can say: I was a sea horse in my dream yesterday night, but I remember it so vividly I probably am a sea horse even now.
Let me know your thoughts.
Big hugs,
Vittoria
