„Rentrer à la maison“ – video premier

Coming home with good intentions with Anadol & Marie Klock

On 15 May, Anadol (aka Gözen Atila) and Marie Klock’s new joint album, Manivelles, will finally be released. The two met in 2022 at a festival in England.as they told Kaput 2024 in an interview about their joint debut album “La grande accumulation”. The collaboration soon took the two to the island of Büyükada near Istanbul, where playful, unpredictable songs were created amid sea mist, ferry rhythms, and urban island clutter. This time, the new album was created equally in Paris and Istanbul.

.
The first single, “Rentrer à la maison,” gives a taste of what’s to come. The accompanying video was directed by Timo Schierhorn & UWE (Auge Altona), known among other things for their opulent clips for Deichkind, although this time they have focused entirely on Anadol and Marie Klock and let a dachshund take a bath. The dog perfectly captures that feeling of standing there “drenched” while being confronted with your parents’ neuroses.

But see for yourself:

Here is the text for those who want to know more:Here is the text for those who want to know more:

„Rentrer à la maison“ / “Whenever You Go Home”

“Your arms are full of presents, it’s been 6 months since you last saw your parents
You’ve put on your best clothes, you’re feeling good, look how great your life’s turned out to be
But it starts soon as you open the door: mama thinks you’ve got chubby,
Papa tells you about his ailments, arthritis, neuritis, syncope…
Do they see written “I’m a doctor” on your face?
And no one’s even asked you how you’ve been (Oh peachy, I’m on antidepressants)
You wanted be a good girl… you’ll have to wait ‘til next time

Whenever you go home
You start off with great intentions
And then, shove ‘em up your ass
Nice and deep, nice and deep

Papa would hit you, mama would threaten to chuck herself out the window and would tell you you were ugly
So all it takes is you hearing for the hundredth time their anecdotes about May 68
For you to get crushed like a pancake
A smile, a habit, a certain way of breathing and real quick all hell breaks loose,
Where is the love? Couldn’t tell you about it
It’s the story of humanity, when you’re at home you’re just a baby
But this building, isn’t your home, it’s just the house where you grew up
If your childhood was a crap show, here’s a can of gasoline

Whenever you go home
You start off with great intentions
And then shove ‘em up your ass
Nice and deep, nice and deep
(etc.)”
