From Warp to Beastie Boys
Katja Ruge is the elder stateswoman of German music photography. Her portfolio showcases works for all important music magazines, from Spex to Intro and Groove. For Kaput she opened her private collection and chose her ten favourite pictures.
- „The artists of the first ever Warp Records release, Forgemasters, and the best booker in the world: Ralf Köster. Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg.“
- „Luke Slater has such a beautiful ear. Shot in Cologne.“
- „Richey from the Manic Street Preachers (sadly since presumed dead) and I reading love letters. Shot in Manchester.“
- . „Kosi Koze is burning. Shot in his hometown Hamburg.“
- „Aphex Twin being all flirty. Shot in Hamburg.“
- „Machines, what would life be without them… This photo was taken in the so called Synthesizerstudio. Hamburg´s very own Minimoog and my breakfast plate.“
- „The magic Alhambra in Granada. An unforgettable holiday – with a touch of paranoia. Isn´t that Hannibal Lecter behind us?“
- „Teri Gender Bender. A very ‘vivid’ Mexican, wearing a traditional death mask.“
- „The Max Ernst retrospective in New York City. The shadow of the sculptor „Moonmad“. My favorite picture of them all.“
- „Not shot in New York, but New York is definitely in the house. The Beastie Boys taking over Markthalle Hamburg. Some tissues and flu bugs got exchanged that night.“
