10 CTM shows not to be missed this week

Lynn Nandar Htoo, rEmPiT g0dDe$$, Gabriel Htoo, Sarah Hanan
„Resonant Resilience“
28.1.25, Radialsystem, 7pm

Commissioned by the CTM Radio Lab, Lynn Nandar Htoo and rEmPiT g0dDe$$’s “Resonant Resilience” explores the experiences of individuals displaced by the ongoing political turmoil in Myanmar and the harsh regulations faced by queer communities in Malaysia. Through field recordings and electronic compositions, they fuse soundscapes with dynamic visual art by Gabriel Htoo and Sarah Hanan.

Theo Alexander & Qow
»So Afraid To Show I Care« (ft. Otteswed & Klara Pudlakova)
29.1., Radialsystem, 7pm

Self-taught composer Theo Alexander delves into what he terms ‘insurmountable contradictions’. His music often juxtaposes opposing themes, such as the manmade and the natural, engaging them in an anxious yet playful dialogue. For this special project “So Afraid To Show I Care”, he’s joined by Qow, whose approach embraces poetic imperfections and moments of unexpected intimacy, resonant with vulnerability and depth, along with rapper Otteswed and double bass virtuoso Klara Pudlakova.

Witch Club Satan
Berghain, 28.1.25, 11.50pm

Raising chaos from the infernal abyss, Witch Club Satan’s feminist black metal summons the spectral fury of women burned at stakes, resurrected through the howls of their own defiance. Both theater and invocation, live rituals unfold in grotesque beauty with gore-drenched costumes, nudity, and wretched personas: a witch’s sabbath for the disenchanted and the enraged, flensing the sanitized archetype of womanhood to lay bare the monstrous, divine truth beneath.

Caterina de Nicola (live)
Berghain, 29.1.25, 22:40pm

Artist and noise musician Caterina De Nicola carves her practice from the detritus of post-consumerist culture, wielding a post-postmodern skepticism as both scalpel and bludgeon. Her work oscillates between annihilation and renewal, exploring the precariousness of modern life while hinting at the decadence of its eternal repetitions. A powerful visual artist as well, this performance will feature a dramaturgical conversion between feedback drones and harsh noise.

ANTCONSTANTINO
30.1.25, Berghain, 10pm

A DJ and producer hailing from Duque de Caxias, Brazil, ANTCONSTANTINO is rapidly becoming a key figure in the underground music scene. Known for his eclectic approach, he seamlessly blends Brazilian grime, drill, and pulse-jacking »pula pula« beats into his dynamic sets. His monthly show on NTS Radio showcases this sweaty sonic palette, and EPs like Fashion pull inspiration from Jamaican riddim to craft tracks both chic and cutting-edge.

Deize Tigrona
30.1.25 (31.1.), Panorama Bar, 2am

A trailblazer in the world of Funk Carioca—a genre that she helped elevate from the streets of Rio de Janeiro to global recognition—Deize Tigrona’s sharp lyricism and unapologetic delivery first caught attention in the early 2000s, blending humor and social commentary with an infectious energy. Tigrona gained international acclaim by collaborating with artists like M.I.A., Diplo, and Buraka Som Sistema, bringing the raw, pulsating beats of Rio’s favelas to an eclectic global audience. Her iconic track “Sadomasoquista” not only went viral but cemented her legacy as a pioneering voice in the genre. Her collaborations extend beyond music to multidisciplinary projects like the documentary Bete & Deise, which explores her life alongside actress and activist Bete Mendes. The documentary highlights Tigrona’s role as a cultural icon who has used her platform to navigate and critique the complexities of public life.

ganavya
31.1.25, Radialsystem, 8.15pm

Ganavya Doraiswamy has been called “one of the most compelling vocalists in modern music” (Wall Street Journal). She is a transdisciplinary scientist, singer, word artist and multi-instrumentalist. Born in New York and raised in Tamil Nadu, she holds degrees from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the University of California in Los Angeles, and the Harvard University, Cambridge.
Her recent albums include “Daughter of a Temple”, a ritualistic gathering of over 30 musicians with the help of Esperanza Spalding, as well as “The Body of Reality”, co-produced by Peter Sellars.
Doraiswamy is the solo vocalist on Esperanza Spalding’s 2021 album “Songwrights Apothecary Lab”, which won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal in 2022.
She is the writer and singer of the first Tamil lyric to win a Latin Grammy (2020). She was a vocalist in Vijay Iyer’s Ritual Quartet and a soloist on the Quincy Jones-produced “Tocororo”, which reached #1 in the jazz charts.
She is currently working on an opera commission for the Festival d’Aix: The opera, directed by Peter Sellars, is based on the 2000 year old Buddhist Mahayana text Vimalakirti Sutra and the life of her grandmother Smt with a libretto by Robert Thurman, music by Doraiswamy and Sivan Eldar.
