Drift – Revisited

Leonberger Momente with Leah Singer & Lee Ranaldo

Three years after his main band Sonic Youth finally assisted the destruction of punk, Lee Ranaldo and filmmaker Leah Singer visited Europe to perform a rare few nights under their imprint Drift, sharing another intriguing world of sound and images.

Somehow we managed to lure them to the small town of Leonberg into our local youth club called Beatbaracke. They gave a remarkable performance as Drift that night in February 1994. As their name makes clear, it was all about psychedelic pictures, washed out guitar sounds and the hypnotic voice of Lee Ranalado.

The Interview was conducted by Dietmar Bosch, who these days runs the Allscore label, and this was originally published in Harakiri Magazin.
