Beats in Space & Apple Music

Tim Sweeney: “That’s right, that’s right, this is the new set-up”

My last post about Tim Sweeney was titled “The Eternal Student”, a reference to the fact that even years after graduating from New York University, Tim was still producing his radio show “Beats in Space” in the basement of the building “5 University Plaza New York” for the college radio station WNYU-FM (the same building, by the way, where Rick Rubin founded the label Def Jam in his student days in 1983). Last year, however, there was a crisis just in the twentieth year of the “relationship” – and shortly thereafter it was over.

But fortunately, the saga now continues. Last week, Tim Sweeney made his debut with “Beats in Space” on Apple Music, where he found a new home for his show – with Planningtorock as his first guest DJ.

In the aftermath of the show, I did a video interview with Tim Sweeney about the yesterday, today and tomorrow of Beats and Space as well as the status quo vadis of the electronic music scene.
